U15s win New Forest Cup

A strong performance with bat and ball saw Sway overcome Bashley win the New Forest U15s Cup at a sun drenched Lymington Sports Ground.

Sway skipper Noah Glass won the toss and elected to bowl first. Sway opened their attack with Alex Condon and U13 star Declan Treacey whilst Bashley opened with Jack Allen and the impressive Sam Davis.  The opening overs were evenly contested tight lines from the Sway bowlers, but David putting away any width or over pitched balls. With the score on 23 Treacey got the breakthrough bowling Allen for 2. Bashley suffered two further setbacks when number 3 Kieran Pardy was run out for just one following some sharp work from Sway keeper Oscar Hudson and Will Manning was trapped LBW by Glass. Davis however powered on, scoring 8 boundaries before retiring on 36.

Number 5 Archie MacFarlane was going well and it took some fine work by Alex Condon in the field to run him out for 23 as Bashley looked to push on. Some fine bowling by Sway's change bowlers kept the pressure on - U13 Jasper Condon's 3 overs for 17 were just what Sway needed and he deservedly picked up a wicket when Josh Ferris was superbly caught diving forward by another U13 team mate Seth Pickering. After their 16 overs Bashley has reached 119-6 - somewhere near a par score.

Sway opened their reply with Oscar Hudson and Oli Sharp. The pair got things going along nicely albeit decent bowling from Manning and Will Hayward never really allowed Sway to cut loose. Sharp and Hudson both retired on 35 and Sway looked in total control of the chase. Bashley however started to put the squeeze on - Alex Condon was run out, Glass bowled for 14 and Ben Tilier-Wood also perished.

So going into the final over, Sway  needed 5 runs to win with Declan Treacey and Jasper Condon (9*) at the crease to face Sam Davis. The bowler offered up a bit of width and Treacey carved the ball over the covers for a boundary to relieve the tension. Two dot balls followed, but a scrambled single off the 4th ball saw Sway home to the victory.
