Sway 1st XI Shock New Milton

A magnificent unbeaten 84 from skipper Tom Noble saw Sway upset a strong New Milton outfit who are a full three leagues above them.

Chasing 191, Sway started circumspectly, with Will Millard helping see off the new ball and twins Josh and Dan Bailey getting starts before a terrific partnership between Noble and the hugely impressive Tom Burton (48) gave momentum to the Sway innings.

Burton hit three towering sixes, one clattering into the score hut, and when he departed Hugh Bernard smacked one big blow as Sway nudged towards the line, but things were in the balance when Sam Nailor and Adam Clark perished and Noble was joined by Ollie Dowding.

Dowding hit one glorious slog sweep and fittingly Noble – who hit some gorgeous drives and rotated the strike well – hit the winning runs as Sway got home with four balls to spare against their Southern league opponents.

Earlier in the day a fine fielding performance backed the bowlers, with Bernard (4-22) the pick of the bunch and Dan Bailey (2-36), performing well. The initial breakthrough came from Jon Waller, while Sam Nailor (2-29) was very tidy throughout and Josh Bailey got his first scalp of the season.

There were excellent catches from Waller, who helped Nailor remove the dangerous Toby Edwards, a corking, tumbling effort from Millard and two terrific grabs each for Noble and Clark as Milton’s season suffered a stuttering start and Sway’s shows great promise.
