Ropley 113-3 Sway 1st XI 112
Hants County Div 1
Sway had a day to forget away at Ropley as the hosts dominated from start to finish.
Missing regular ‘keeper and opening bat Alex Hall, Sway skipper Tim Noble lost the toss and were invited to bat on what turned out to be a tricky pitch to bat on with variable bounce.
Immediately under pressure from Ropley’s excellent new ball pairing, Sway were quickly reduced to 20-4 before Oscar Marshall and Tom Thorp (17) put up some resistance.
Marshall (20) found another willing partner in South African Jayvier Dehning, who looked good for his 17. But after both were out the innings was quickly wrapped up in the 38th over.
In response Sway’s search for quick wickets proved futile as Ropley’s opening pair, including former Hampshire and England spinner Shaun Udal, rocketed away to 50 without loss.
The introduction of Josh Bailey brought rewards, he grabbed two wickets – with safe catches by David Steadman and Neil Prince – while another big positive was a fantastic spell from the returning John Grasham, who bowled the Ropley opener with a beauty.
