U11s: Sway 126-6, New Milton 96-5
Sway U11s produced an excellent team performance to beat a good New Milton side.
Sway skipper Harry West won the toss and elected to bat but was him self bowled for 5 by a cracking delivery from the excellent Ollie Galloway (3-0-8-2). Seth Pickering and Austin Hudson however put on 48 for the 2nd wicket with 7 boundaries between them before Pickering retired and Hudson was bowled by S Giles for 19.
U9 Hugh McIlroy ran superbly between the wickets before he was bowled by L Laubsher (3-0-10-1) but Sway hopes suffered a setback when big guns Jasper Condon and Declan Treacey were both caught for just 3 and 7 respectively. Brage Wallis however recorded his highest score to date (20*) in a 41 partnership with U9 debutant Jack Rashbrook (11), the pair making up for lack of raw power with excellent running between the wickets as Sway finished up on 126-6.
New Milton got off to a solid start but suffered a setback when H Beck was bowled by Lawrence Warner with the score on 15. New Milton dug in with a good partnership between Galloway and L Laubsher but were getting behind the rate, struggling in particular against the short pitched pace of Treacey (2-0-3-0). The partnership was broken in the most dramatic of ways. Sam Tiller-Wood bowled a rare leg side delivery leg and Galloway smashed the ball to square leg only to see Pickering dive at full stretch away to his right and pluck the ball out of the air one handed - a catch reminiscent of Jonty Rhodes and one that would have been an amazing catch in the 1st XI never mind the U11s.
The catch put Sway in control of the game and there were tight spells from another U9, George Hudson (2-0-8-0) and another wicket for Warner (2-0-11-2). Condon (3-0-10-1) picked up a wicket before closing out the final over leaving Sway the victors by 30 runs.
Seth Pickering - outstanding catch
