Good effort by the Seahawks tonight to take lead leaders Pear Tree down to the final over.
Sway batted first with Chris Straw and Niall Gallagher opening against Pear Tree’s quality attack. Gallagher hit one big 6 before mistiming a drive however Straw hung around with a view to getting Sway safely through to the luncheon interval!
Chris Hammond looked in decent nick but had the misfortune to face almost an over of unplayable quick stuff 10 inches outside off. When Hammond wa...s caught for 12, it brought in James Marshall for his indoor debut. With their contrasting pace a run out seemed almost inevitable.... but the pair put on 33 before Straw finally managed to run himself out for 22.
This brought together a father son combo for the last 2 overs and some big hitting saw Sway to a better than expected total of 126-3 with Marshall junior 24 not out and Dave Marshall 15 not out.
In reply Pear Tree seemed fairly in control of the chase, but Sway gradually started to winkle out their bats. Gallagher (2-0-25-2) claimed the first of 2 wickets when Marshall Snr took a smart catch on the back wall. Gallagher then returned the favour taking a catch for Marshall Snr (3-0-19-1). In between there was a tidy spell of 3-0-32-0 from Stephen Drayton- victim of some very harsh wide calls with the batsman backing away.
Gallagher then produced the highlight of the evening - and amazing c&b - diving low like a salmon with Type 2 diabetes!!
There was one final top moment for Sway - nemesis and dangerman Jamie Meredith edged a Straw (2-0-30-1) ball which was snaffled by Marshall Jnr.
Big thanks also to Pete B for scoring.
