The Dream Team got off to a winning start after a hard fought victory over a gutsy Christchurch side at the Dorset Cricket Centre.
Sway skipper Dan Stevenson lost the toss and was asked to bat first, opening the innings along with the Wizard Of Spin/Bat [delete as applicable] Chris Straw. The pair got of to a steady start against some nippy but also sometimes wayward bowling. At the half way stage Sway has made 68 and then with the openers safely back in the hutch, the acceleration began with senior debutant Olly Marshall and Steve Hannibal. Marshall was soon into his groove and retired as well whilst Hanni was not out on 22. The only wicket to fall was Dave Marshall who thought he had played a cheeky shot to the leg side corner only to see a youngster take a brilliant one handed catch. Sway scored 165-1 off 12.
In reply Christchurch got of to a very good start with left handed Craig Campbell soon retired as did very impressive 14yo Sonny Viney (53*). Sway’s fielding was very much Division 6.....but luckily the bowling wasn’t with all bowlers doing a good job.
At the half way point Christchurch were 10 runs ahead of where Sway were but then the big squeeze began.....Chris Straw (3-0-31-0) was tidy with his 3 overs for 32, Olly Marshall (3-0-36-2) had already claimed one wicket with a catch behind by Stevenson then sniffled the crucial wicket of Campbell who popped the ball up to to dad.
Marshall senior (3-1-19-1) then followed this up with 2 overs for just 1 run meaning that Stephen Drayton (3-0-55-0) had 45 runs to play with in the final over and kept his cool with an extra-less over as Sway ran out winners by 24 runs.
Olly Marshall - retirement and and 2 wickets on DCC senior debut
