Sway U13s crowned New Forest Champions

Sway 118-7, Totton & Eling 100-7

The two unbeaten teams in the New Forest went head-to-head in a hotly contested play-off final at Bransgore CC. Sway won the toss and batted first but suffered a big setback early doors when Oscar Hudson was run out in a mix up. Skipper Oli Sharp was then bowled for 6 however Noah Glass and Connor Treacey put on 62 for the 3rd wicket and at one point Sway looked set for 140+ total. Totton however put a squeeze on once Treacey was out for 24 with the impressive Gerald Martin taking 3 wickets for just 5 runs. When Glass was finally bowled for a well-made 27 It was left to Olly Marshall and Theo Mitchell-Innes to see Sway up to perhaps a par score of 118-7.

Fresh from his 3 wicket haul, Martin laid into the Sway opening bowlers on his way to a rapid retirement on 35. Sway however did start picking up wickets at steady intervals - one each for Sharp and Treacey and a run out after some great work by Alex Condon. Nevertheless at the half way point Totton were well ahead of the required rate with wickets in hand.

Condon picked up another wicket in a decent three over spell, then Sway looked to take the pace off the ball to stem the runs with the required rate standing at relatively undemanding 7 an over. U11 skipper Marshall produced two big overs for just 4 runs picking up 2 wickets and a run out. Callan Wallis also stepped up and bowl a crucial inexpensive over. The squeeze was assisted by great fielding - out in the deep by Wallis and Harry Bysouth, and in close by keeper Hudson and Mitchell-Innes in particular. With Totton needing 12 an over off the last two overs it was left to Marshall and Glass to close out the game which they did with relative ease to see Sway home by 18 runs with Glass inducing a nick through to the keeper off the final ball.

A great achievement by a young side - the entire team is eligible for the U13s again next season! It is also the first time Sway have ever won the U13s league, so an important development for the Club with only the U16s title remaining to check off the list!
