Sway U11s produced a superb performance to beat undefeated league leaders Totton & Eling at a roasting hot Southern Gardens.

Sway went into the match with a plan to neutralise Totton’s big hitters and executed it perfectly. Winning the toss skipper Ollie Marshall opted to bowl a took the pace off the ball bringing keeper Harry Allies up to the stumps. Marshall picked up 2 quick wickets and Seth Pickering another as Totton found themselves at 32-3 off 6. With big hittin...g batsman Freddie Banks retired not out without ever really being able to cut loose, Totton struggled to push on against tight lines. Excellent spells by Pickering and Luke Shearer as well as hard-to-play moon bowling by Brage Wallis kept the home side in check. There was an excellent catch by Ben Tilier-Wood off the tricky spin of Jasper Condon 3-0-8-2 and another for Marshall 3-0-6-3 as the home side finished on 73-6 with just 11 extras.

Surely not enough runs on such a quick outfield? But Totton have a very strong bowling attack so anything was possible.....

Sway opened their reply with Marshall and Condon who with some nice shots and running got Sway off to a good start before Condon was bowled by a bowled that moved a lot off the pitch. Pickering joined Marshall and runs continued to come but Sway suffered a big setback when Marshall was caught at deep leg slip for 16 trying to pull a short ball.

With 40 on the board at the half way stage Sway were well on course with Pickering safely retired not out on 25. With a banker in place, Sway attempted to go for the jugular but lost 3 quick wickets. Nevertheless the runs continued to flow and Tilier-Wood (6*) and Harry West (9*) saw Sway home to a great win with 19 balls to spare.

A fantastic ream performance.
