Hythe & Dibden and Sway fought tooth and nail in searing heat in the opening game of the 2018 Woodhouse Trophy

Sway batted first and got off to a great start with a 76 run partnership between Arthur Lomax and Tom Burton. Burton was in imperious form racking up a chanceless 113 supported by 54 from George Lewis as Sway were all out for 224.

In reply the visitors got off to a great start reducing Hythe to 40-5 as victory seemed certain. Two wickets on his senior debut for U11 Tom ...O’Callaghan, a wicket each for U12s Noah Glass and Callan Wallis ( also on competitive debut) along with a super run out following a huge throw from Burton and sharp work by keeper Sebbie Allies. Finally two more catches for U11 Olly Marshall to take his total for the day to six - a record not even “The Claw” can match.

Hythe dug in however with Jamie Fletcher (88*) and Dan Duell (66) and the pair started to pick up the run rate despite a good spell of pace from Connor Treacey.. With the Sway youngsters starting to wilt in the field it looked like Hythe could pull off a win, but with the game still in the balance, Burton bowled the exhausted Duell and Hythe held on for the draw at 204-6.

Great Effort by all and some very tired boys !
