U10s off to indoor flier

The new Sway U10s hit the ground running at Hurn on Thursday in the opening match of the Dorset Indoor Cricket League. Declan Treacey scored well from the off to retire on 25 after 6 overs, under-studied by Harry Allies who amassed a durable 22 before being run out diving for the crease. Jasper Condon hit a majestic 6 on his way to a quick 21 before holing out to a sharp catch. With such a good start Sway played intelligently to keep the scoreboard spinning, amassing a significant 176 runs for 2, only 4 short of collecting all 6 batting bonus points. Braige Wallis faced the best of the Hamworthy bowling, but was unbeaten at the end.

With the new pink ball under the lights, Sway bowled with confidence and maturity to frustrate the run chase, which rarely got going. Braige was very unlucky to have to retire from the field for a while after stopping a certain boundary with his cheek. The remaining 4 bowlers took wickets at key moments and gave little away, the pick of the bowlers being Seth Pickering ( 1/14) and Jon Pepin ( 2/20) each off 3 overs. Fielding was all but flawless and capped Hamworthy at 102 for 4, the feat made possible by man ľof- the- match- winning stint behind the stumps by Harry Allies. It was a job well done and an impressive start for the team.
