New Forest U11s Cup Final
Sway 88-6, Bashley (Rydal) 69-8
Sway U11s edged out Bashley in a biting New Forest Cup final to secure a league and cup double, with a 100% record.
Bashley won the toss and naturally chose to bowl on an understandably moist pitch. From the outset Sway were right up against it from the excellent Bashley opening pairing of Sam Davis and Archie McFarlane. The tight lines continued as Sway only managed 8 runs off first 6 overs and lost Noah Glass, bowled by Davis for 3.Fellow opener Olly Marshall and Connor Treacey dug in deep and gradually picked rate up the run rate despite there being no easy runs on offer. By the time skipper Marshall retired unbeaten on 28 after a fine innings and Treacey was dismissed for 15, the 45 run partnership had given Sway a chance. Fine batting and running by Oli Sharp (19), Callan Wallis and Theo Mitchell-Innes got Sway to a potentially defendable 88 off 18.
In reply Bashley went out of the traps like a rocket against some indifferent bowling hammering 28 off the first 4 overs. After 8 overs Bashley were seemingly cruising to victory with 9 wickets in hand. Sway as a last gasp effort, took the pace off the ball and brought the fielders in. Spinner Tom O'Callaghan made a crucial breakthrough having Bashley dangerman Tom Manning caught by Olly Marshall falling backwards at mid wicket for 22. Man-of-the-match O'Callaghan then picked up 3 more wickets for just 6 runs with super catches taken by Connor "the new claw" Treacey and Lukas Andrews.
Sway were now right back in it and brought the fielders in and squeezed the life out of the Bashley innings with some tight overs from Noah Glass, Sharp & Wallis. By the last over, they needed 25 runs - and never looked like getting it. The last 11 overs went for just 20 runs as Sway staged a dramatic fight back to win the cup and complete the double.
