Burton records maiden ton

Sway III 284-4, Milford on Sea 83ao

Sway won the toss and elected to bat at Pennington against a depleted Milford side who started with only 9 players with others turning up and leaving throughout the afternoon. Bennet got off to a flying start with 4 boundaries before missing a full toss on middle stump and was out lbw for 16. This brought in Tom Burton to join Rick How and they took advantage of the regular changes and variety of bowling and shortage of fielders to keep the scoreboard moving along quickly to both pass 50 with Burton especially striking the ball well to all parts of the ground and How happy to give Burton the strike.

The partnership of 142 was ended when How on 63 miscued one of the many full tosses and was well caught then George Lewis fresh from his 36 in the Stone Cup final the night before, took over to hit a quick fire 48 before being caught on the boundary going for another maximum. Burton finally departed for a superb 111 with 4 6's and 11 4's becoming the 2nd youngest Sway player to complete his maiden century at the age of 15. Will Baughan and Henry Marden took the score at the end on to a formidable 284 for 4 wickets.

After an excellent tea especially Jane's Victoria sponge, it was the bowlers turn and skipper Steve Drayton struck in his second over having Gregory caught close in by Dave Marshall for 6 and then Charlie Smith not to be outdone had Rogers caught behind for 12. The first change brought wickets for Dave Marshall and Matt Burton in their first overs and Milford were in trouble at 41 for 4 but then a brief spell of big hitting from Sam Brown with 28 including 2 big 6's before Marshall having him caught behind by Pete Bennet who then following this up with a stumping off Burton, Marshall the best of the bowlers with 3 for 15. Jim Metcalfe finished off the match picking up the last wicket with his first ball and Milford were all out for 81 in the 19th over, so an excellent team effort sees another maximum 24 point haul.
