U9s off to winning start

Sway U9s kicked off their 2017 League Campaign with a comfortable win against a young and inexperienced Hythe & Dibden team. On a cold and windy evening at Jubilee Field Hythe won the toss and asked Sway to bat first. Jasper Condon and Seth Pickering gave the hosts a good start putting on 44 in the first 4 overs. Sway continued to progress with good contributions from Harry West(10), Brage Wallis(13) and Declan Treacey(11). The innings closed on 308 for 5 wickets.

After the interval Sway took the field with descending gloom now added to the chill and the wind!  Sway's bowling was tight and Hythe batsmen were unable to force the pace. Accurate bowling from Harry West (3 overs for 1 run) and Declan Treacey( 3 overs 1 wicket and 4 runs) contained the visitors. The bowlers were well supported by excellent fielding from the Sway youngsters and although Sway only took 1 wicket and Hythe were never up with the pace. Hythe finished on 243 for 1 wicket leaving Sway winners by 65 runs. Plenty of positives for both sides is the game which was played in great spirit despite the unseasonable conditions.
