Sway players make the HCL averages!

Sway were again well-represented in the Hampshire Cricket League 2016 official averages which have now been announced. Congratulations to all.

Our 1st XI skipper Alex Hall again leg from the front, scoring the most runs in CD3S, averaging over 50 in the process. Only just behind him was top order partner Tim Noble who also scored over 500 runs at over 50 - if you have two players in a team doing that then you should finish right up the table. Hall and Noble also featured in the top batting partnership of the season - 237 in the final game of the season at Woodgreen.Tucked away in 17th was Nilantha Atapattu who had a relatively quiet season with the bat by his own standards!

Finally, David Steadman scraped into the top 20, albeit might not have if Mudeford or Langley Manor had sent in their averages!

For the 2nd XI, no Sway batsman made the top 20 - something that needs to change if the team are to push on. Hats off though to Braemore's Shaun Marlow who topped the table with an impressive 709 runs at an average of 71 - an average dented by Sam Nailor who bowled him for just 4 in Sway's clash.

With the ball, veteran change-bowler Dave Marshall made a welcome return to the top end of the averages after injury, this year picking up 32 wickets at 11.8 including 29 maidens.

For Sway 3rd XI, it was the colts that were the stars, boding well for the future. With the bat, Tom Burton racked up 283 at an average of 40.4 - but knowing Tom I know he would have wanted many more! The most impressive average in the table was Matt Tatchell of Lytchett, averaging 109.75 - but it would have been even more if he had not been caught behind by Pete Bennet off Ben Sanger for just 24 in Sway's super win against the Dorset side.

With the ball, it was it was a combination of youth and experience that did the damage for the 3rds. Skipper Steve Drayton picked up 22 wickets with U13 leg spinner making the averages in his first season in adult cricket - picking up 19 wickets with both impressive average and economy for a spinner.

Down in RD4SW, Sway 4th XI skipper nurdled his way into the averages, scoring 222 runs at 25 - and no doubt would have scored more if he had had more support. Sway veterans will perhaps notice that former Sway player Mark Randall-Turner also featured in the batting averages for Parley IV with his son making the bowling averages.. Milford, with 7 player sin the batting averages, must have broken some kind of record!
