2017 league structure revealed
Sway 1st XI's promotion to CD2 has been confirmed with the announcement of the Hampshire Cricket League divisional structure for 2017.
So a lot of first time, and tough opponents next season for Sway 1sts. Notably a game against Ellingham who just 3 years ago won CD1 before having a disastrous 2016 season. There will be 3 potential long trips to North Hampshire with games against Andover II, Petersfield and Basingstoke III, the 2nd highest placed 3rd XI in the county after St Cross. Sway will also get the opportunity to avenge their disappointing National Village Cup defeat to Easton & Martyr Worthy.
Sway 2nd XI RD1 will have a very familiar look with plenty of games against old friends and rivals. Sway will certainly be looking to kick on and finish even higher in the table especially given that 4 sides enjoyed additional promotions from RD2 - Hythe & Dibden III (5th with 7&3 record), Bashley IV (6th with 7&5), Christchurch (7th with 7&6) and Bramshaw II (8th with 5&8). Sway will also be looking forward to another derby with Lymington III after they were relegated from CD4. Sadly one side who will not be taking their place in the league this season is Exbury who have folded - a sad loss to both the HCL and village cricket in general.
Whatever happens in 2017, Sway 3rds will finish in their highest ever league position. With just 4 of the teams in the 2017 division surviving from 2016, the league is a real mix
The best news for Sway 4ths is that as a result of the league re-organisation, they will have a full roster of league fixtures and not much travelling to do!
