Solid Batting leaves Sway in Contention
Cadnam 164 ;Sway 254-4
Hampshire County Division 3 South
Sway kept their promotion hopes alive with a maximum points win at Cadnam thanks to a dominant display from their top order batsman.
Having put Sway in to bat, Cadnam thought they were on to a good thing when they had Adam Clark out caught off Neill early on but Alex Hall and Will Millard soon began to build a substantial partnership. Millard finally fell in the 32nd over having contributed 76 to a partnership of 147.
Hall was joined by Nilantha Attapatu (37) and the skipper just fell short of a century when Singha took his wicket on 93. David Steadman added 26 to bring Sway’s total to a formidable 254.
Steadman made the breakthrough in the Cadnam innings, bowling Singh for 2, as both he and Ben Powers stifled the openers. Further damage was done by Attapatu who took two wickets in his spell with John Grasham.
Strong resistance from opener Sam Godfrey was finally put to an end by Powers who trapped him LBW on 48. With maximum points in their sites, Steadman and Attapatu returned to take five more wickets between them as Cadnam were bowled out for 164. The result leaves Sway third in the league, just one place below a promotion slot with two games to play.
