VERWOOD II    97 SWAY  III    100 - 6

Sway 3rds moved up to 2nd place in the League table after a hard fought victory over Verwood 2nds at Potterne Park.

Verwood won the toss and elected to bat and were soon regretting the decision as Sway skipper Steve Drayton bowled two batsmen in the very first over and soon had the other opener caught behind by Pete Bennet.

When he came off after 6 overs his replacement Alan Lawes was soon into his stride and also picked up 3 wickets one bowled and the others to catches from Jim Metcalfe and Alex Hart which reduced Verwood to 35 - 6.

At the other end Ben Sanger had toiled away without any good fortune but finished with the tidy figures of 0 - 17 from his 10 overs. Richard Pearson was the only batsman to offer sustained resistance as Tom Burton and Caspar Todd picked up further wickets as Drayton returned to finish his spell by bowling number 10 J.Smith to end with 4 - 10 from his allotted overs. Burton 2 - 12 then ended Pearson's valiant innings of 38 with the last ball of the 42 overs with Lawes claiming the catch.

Dan Thompson got an early wicket for Verwood bowling Bennet and despite both Metcalfe and Burton hitting nice boundaries they were both out to Eric Pearson as Sway wobbled on 16 - 3. Rick How and Hart then set about getting Sway back into contention and added 31 runs together before 3 wickets fell with the score on 47 as Simon Jordan ( 2 - 18 ) bowled Hart and J.Butler stumped Steve Hannibal soon followed by How's nice knock of 22 being ended by Thompson ( 2 - 20 ). Todd was joined by Dave Hurrell and these two saw off Thompson and Jordan and soon picked up the run rate and helped by a flurry of late byes the score had reached 96 when Todd hit E.Pearson ( 2 - 34 ) for four to not only win the match but also bring up another batting point, Todd ending on 19 not out and Hurrell 17 not out with the partnership unbroken on 53.
