U15s end season with a stunning performance at Lymington
Lymington 76-9, Sway 45-7
The U15’s sitting second in the league headed to Woodside to play the league leaders.
We were missing our captain and until Saturday it looked as though we would have to cancel as we had only our regular three girls, two u13s and two u15s. With last minute volunteers we managed to pull together 10 players – 7 of them eligible to play in the u13s and one actually eligible for the u11s.
Lymington who are unbeaten had their full team of u15s with district and county players apparently in abundance, including I gather the Hampshire u15 captain. A quick check of the results suggested that no one had taken more than 6 wickets off them all season.
Lymington elected to bat and there was initial talk of 200+ and not having to use their top 3 bowlers.
So there was a sense of shock from the sidelines as they lost 2 wickets for 1 run in the first over from Thomas Burton. By the end of the fourth over Thomas and Bradley Balcombe had three wickets for 10 runs. By the end of the 8th Josh Bailey had added a couple and they were on just 26 for 5. After that the wickets fell regularly and by the end Sara Allport, Bradley, and Thomas had all picked up wickets, together with an excellent run out from Beth Marshall and a total of 4 wickets for Josh Bailey. Catherine Allport had a great game behind the stumps with just 2 byes to Lymington’s 6.
“Disaster” and “they have girls in the team” reportedly were heard amongst the other side and by the end of the innings our 10 man side had taken 9 wickets for just 76 runs.
Our own batting unfortunately didn’t quite live up to the fielding. We lost our three main batsmen by the 8th over with both Josh and Dan Bailey caught, however in particular with the help of Sara Allport age 12 and Ollie Smith 13 who each survived 7 overs we at least lost only 7 wickets to their 9.
Top scoring batsmen from Sway were Dan Bailey, Ollie Smith, Sara Allport and Bethan Marshall.
A fantastic end to the season with our young side all of whom are still eligible for u15s next year stepping up against an exceptional team.
