Agonising defeat in President's cup

Sway gave Lymington a scare in the Presidentís Cup on Monday night but ultimately fell short of causing an upset by five runs at Jubilee Field

Having won the toss, a strong Lymington side opted to bat and compiled a score of 128-6 from their 18 overs. Ed Ellis (43) top scored, followed by Richard Lock (37), while there were excellent bowling displays by the home side, David Steadman, Jon Grasham, Jon Waller and Ben Powis impressing. The fielding was also decent, with Neil Prince holding a skier in the deep.

In reply Sway got off to a flying start and were at 49 when Tim Noble (20) was first out at the end of the powerplay. But then Nilantha Attapatu was run out and Alex Hall (33) was bowled, checking the progress.

Steadman came to the fray, bludgeoning 18 off one over before holing out for a well-made 37 as Sway got down to needing 30 off the last four overs. However, despite valiant batting efforts from Will Millard (12), FJ Charton and Sam Nailor, the home side were left to reflect on what might have been.
