The u13s welcomed Bashley to Sway & as a few players on each side had played in the terrific u15 match the previous Sunday Sway were hoping to repeat the treatment.

Sway won the toss & batted but skipper Daniel Bailey went aerial a bit early & Sam Presland did well to pouch the steepling top-edge he offered when just 3. Fellow-opener Anthony Rogers was out for 7 in the 6th over & that brought Joshua Bailey & Freddie Pearson together & against some tight bowling they put on a lively partnership of 44 in no time as Joshua peppered the boundaries to retire on 30. At 60 for 2 at the halfway stage Sway were looking to press on to 100+ but as Freddie perished in the 12th over for 14 with the score on 72 they then somehow lost their impetus & were strangled by some tight Bashley bowling. Arthur Lomax & Pascal Giron both played tidily but with only 17 runs & just 1 boundary in the last 6 overs that left Sway with a sub-par 89 for 6 to defend. For Bashley Sam Presland was the pick of the bowlers with an excellent 3-8 off his 3 overs.

Bashley batted sensibly & the experienced opening pair of Jack Harris & Sam Presland put on an impressive 73 for the 1st wicket, riding their luck courtesy of a few dropped catches by Sway fielders. Pearson eventually made the breakthrough getting Presland caught by Thomas Lawrence. Then Daniel Bailey had Newland smartly caught by Catherine Allport behind the stumps, where she had kept wicket superbly conceding just 1 bye. Harris retired with a well-struck 30 with the score in the 70s & as the Sway bowling remained tight they sensed there may be a half-chance of restricting Bashley. But they had reckoned without the classy Toby Mills coming to the crease. Sway were able to use eight bowlers but Bashley's inevitable victory came in the penultimate over.

Catches win matches is a well-known refrain & never truer than in this match where they pouched our big-hitter early but we spilled theirs to our cost.
