Sway man in Hampshire honour

Sway journeyman Dave Marshall was last week extremely honoured to be asked to present an award at Hampshire Cricket Club's end of season dinner in the plush new Hilton Hotel at the Ageas Bowl.

Marshall was asked to present the "Clubman of the Year Award", the link being that this was the same title of award that Marshall recently won at the Hampshire OSCAs awards. It was the first award to be presented so a a clearly nervous looking Sway man made his way to the stage but was pleased to hand the award over to Sean Ervine for his oustanding work for Hampshire in the Community. Sean has been an outstanding servant to Hampshire & Zimbabwe over many years. Sean had taken the trouble to know the names of the award presenters and was also smart enough to spot Marshall's trying to escape with his bottle of champagne. There is more hob nobbing and munching to come when Marshall heads up to Lords next week for the national finals of the OSCAs!

In the evening's other awards, Michael Carberry picked up the best batsman, Fidel Edwards the Best Bowler, whilst teenager Mason Crane was best breakthrough player. However, it was new boy Gareth Berg who left with his hands full winning the both the "Players Player" and "Supporters Player" awards. Things are looking up for next season especially with the signing of the immaculately coiffured England's Reece Topley.
