U11s fight hard against a strong Pylewell

Sway 73-7, Pylewell Park 119-2

Sway put up a good fight against a very strong Pylewell Park who had convincingly beaten Lymington in their opening fixture.

Pylewell batted first with Will Pearson and skipper David Elford opening the bowling. Both bowled well and Elford picked up  a wicket in the 2nd over bowling O Price for 5.  R Mills and C Sopher however were enjoying the predictable bounce of the artificial surface and despite decent bowling were soon playing some fine shots to all parts.  Mills retired for a well-made 25 bringing in R Coombes who also retired cracking 5 boundaries along the way. Sway were not really bowling badly at any point - Max Beresford -Davies and Jake Olney put in 4 decent overs between them but the total was ticking up nicely for the visitors.  Arthur Lomax brought the scoring under control as the innings neared its conclusion and had Sopher caught & bowled for 14 as Pylewell finished up on 119 off their 18 overs.

After a large quantity of jaffa cakes, Sway opened their reply with the technically correct Max Drayton and big hitting pinch hitter Olney. The tactic was only partially successful amidst some excellent bowling.  Olney went for a brief but typically entertaining 6 whilst Drayton looked solid in defence but runs were hard to come by as the required rate ticked upwards. Gabriel Whiting fell for 4 then Oscar Duddell was most unfortunate to be bowled after a leg side delivery deflected off his thigh onto the stumps. The game was almost out of reach but Archie King and Elford put together an excellent partnership scoring 16 and 17 respectively, but the tight stump-to-stump Pylewell bowling meant that there were very few easy boundaries to be had.

In the event Sway finished up 46 runs short  - still it was a good performance against the side that it likely to be the one against which others are measured this season.
