U11s off to great start

Michelmersh & Timsbury 57-7, Sway 58-5

With a large number of the older players unavailable for the opening fixture due to a charity run, Sway travelled to Michelmersh & Timsbury with probably the Club's youngest ever side for this age group. Despite this, they all performed brilliantly in a dominant display

Skipper Max Drayton won the toss and put the hosts into bat on a lively wicket. Opening bowlers Will Perason and David Elford were accurate from the start and soon had the home side in trouble, 4 wickets down for just 11 runs including a fine catch behind the stumps by Reece Dawson. The ship was steadied by H Dunkley (8) and A England (25 no) but runs were at a premium due to tight bowling from Drayton, Sara Allport, John Talbot, Noah Lane and Jake Olney. Elford and Pearson returned at the end of the innings and along with some great fielding, the home side were restricted to 57-7 off 18 overs.

In reply Sway opened with Edward Allport and with Jake Olney as a pinch hitter. Allport was very unlucky to be run out whilst taking a quick single by a superb piece of work by the keeper  - pulling off his glove and sending a bullet throw into the stumps at the other end. True to form Olney cracked a couple of big boundaries before falling over his own stumps for 11 - a fate also suffered by Harvey Baker. There was then a partnership  between the two youngest players Noah Lane and Ollie Marshall who between them have 7 years to look forward to at U11 level. The pair batted very sensibly and by the time Marshall was adjudged LBW for 9 the game was almost over. It was left to U9 star Noah Lane to score the winning runs, cracking his 4th boundary to finish unbeaten on 25.
