Prince maiden ton in eleventh straight 1st XI win

FAWLEY 99, SWAY 260-5

A magnificent century from Neil Prince helped Sway romp to victory away against a depleted Fawley outfit and all-but secure promotion. Despite more than a few of the Sway players nursing hangovers after celebrating the wedding of off-spinner Steve How to Chelsea Truckell the night before, the side produced an accomplished batting performance to help themselves to maximum points. Tim Noble departed early, but Prince and Jack Walton (30) eased the score along with some lung-busting running and terrific boundary hitting. When the latter was out hooking, Nilatha Atapattu joined the imperious Prince and the pair bludgeoned quick runs until the Sri Lankan was caught on the boundary for 36. Throughout the innings the Sway batsmen plundered the attack and it was ex-Bashley man Prince who did most of the hitting, striking more than a dozen sumtuous boundaries before bringing up his hundred with a dab into the off-side. The Sway players rose to their feet to hail Prince after he was caught out for 110, and were applauding shots by Adam Clarke (who hit a unbeaten 36), FJ Charton (16), Alex Hall (12) and a leave by Jack Baughan (which brought three runs) to the end as Sway posted a formidable total.

In reply Jon Waller (2-32) started very rusty after three weeks out but Matt Bramwell (1-18) bowled a tidy spell at the other end to peg the hosts down. After Bramwell got the initial scalp Waller got two wickets in two balls before summing up his day by producing a leg-side wide for the hat-trick ball. A sharp run-out by Charton helped reduce the visitors to 34-4 and Fawley were further in the mire soon after when a fiery and hostile Grasham (3-24) had the batsmen hopping. Walton got two wickets to boost his bowling average while Atapattu claimed the last wicket, aided by a fantastic catch by a jubilant Noble. Sway need just four points to secure promotion today (Saturday) but face a tough test against third-placed Fair Oak if they are to make it 12 wins from 12 league games.
