Pylewell veterans show 4th XI
SWAY IV 111, PYLEWELL PARK II
225 - 9
Sway 4ths finally got to play a game at their fosterage home
ground of Bolton's Bench, and as expected the wicket looked
in robust health.
Pylewell batted first and Sway were to rue some early missed
chances as the top four in the order all made runs, skipper
Chris Melluish was first out caught by Chris Baughan off of
Chris Straw for 21. Sway based Chris Todd and Matt Sterling
then added 84 for the 2nd wicket before Henry Marden took an
excellent catch off Mark Wright's bowling removing Sterling
for 42, Johnny Kennedy joined Todd and the next wicket
didn't fall until 174 runs were on the board, Marden again
holding the catch as Todd perished for a opulent 71 made in
front of his visiting New Zealand based Grandchildren, the
mean lean Brien Machine being the successful bowler.
Sway now enjoyed their best part of the match as James
Brearley in his first game of the season removed Kennedy for
40 and then took 4 wickets in one over including a hat trick
which started with a brilliant caught and bowled and
finished with 2 clean bowled. Straw picked up another wicket
Tony Owen holding a good catch but Sway couldn't get full
bowling points as Pylewell ended up on 225 - 9 with Brearley
5 - 34 and Straw 2 - 39 principal wicket takers.
Sway's reply was a little bit leaden as runs were hard to
come by with just 17 coming in the first 10 overs and the
writing was on the wall by halfway as the total stood at 48
- 4. The one bright spot was the promising debut of Pete How
who followed up an impressive display in the field by making
29 runs in good style before being run out by a unusually
oscillate Derek Seward who then extended his not out run as
Sway concluded on 111 in the final over, although the
watching crowd not including the earlier pitch invaders were
treated to a glorious trademark Dapper cover drive.
Another pitch invasion
at Bolton's Bench, this time not Oompah Loompas but a
collection of Totton's finest!
