Plucky Sway B bow out of indoor cup to Parley A

Parley A 177ao, Sway B 153-5

Sway B bowed out of the Indoor Cup at the handy of mighty Parley A but in doing so put in a top notch performance that gave the oppo a bit of a scare.

Sway won the toss and, in order to ensure match fee value inserted a youthful but profoundly talented Parley into bat. 5 wides in Sam Nailor's first over meant that Parley did not have to do anything to get off to a flying start, but the next over from Dave Marshall restored the balance with just 4 runs coming from it. Nailor in a more accurate over successfully applied pressure that bore results in the form of two wickets. Firstly some really quick work and a direct hit from keeper Steve Keen saw the Parley opener run out, then 4 balls later Nailor induced a nick that was well taken by Keen. An economical first over by Steve Drayton saw Parley reach  63-2 off 5 overs, considerably less than they would have been looking for. However, with the late withdrawal of Andy Straw Sway were a bowler short and had to turn to occasional bowler Dan Stevenson and almost extinct bowler Adam Clark who had to find 3 overs between them which went for 53 runs in total. Sharp fielding however continued and Sway took two further wickets with run-outs as Parley looked to push on; and with the 3rd ball off the final over, Parley lost their final wicket with some quick work between bowler Marshall, and Steve Keen to round off an excellent effort by Sway and the pint-sized cherry stopper Keen in particular. Parley finished up on 177ao, but with just 5 fielders for the majority of the Sway innings, the task was very difficult but not entirely impossible.

The first over from Dorset star Alex "nippy" Nippard showed Sway openers Clark and Stevenson what they were up against - an maiden of high pace and accuracy that recorded thumping direct hits on the boxes of both players! The opening partner Millar was just as quick but not as accurate and Clark and Stevenson played sensibly to plunder 22 runs off the second over. Sway were still just about in the game after 5 overs with the score on 51 and Clark retired safely back in the hutch. Marshall joined Stevenson and the scores kept ticking over albeit Stevenson was run out for 17 by some sharp fielding. Sam Nailor and Marshall took the score on to 113 without any further loss, however the return of the quickies squeezed the life out of Sway's chances. Two wickets were lost in the 10th over as sway desperately tried to up the rate - first Sam Nailor was stumped then Steve Drayton was unfortunate to be run out after the ball unexpectedly bounced back out of the netting into play. Clark returned but Marshall himself was soon stumped going for a heave-ho and Sway finished up 24 runs short with Clark an impressive 41 not out.

All in all an excellent performance from the Sway boys against an impressive Parley side, many of whom are likely to go on to play cricket at Premier League level and above.
