DRAMATIC
END TO RUN BONANZA
WIMBORNE & COLEHILL 249 - 2 SWAY 250 - 7
Wimborne rattled
up their usual high score only losing 2 wickets, U15 star Sam "Crumpy"
Crumpton on senior debut taking a catch off of Dapper and then
picking up a wicket when Ross Clark held a catch in the deep.
Captain N.Kiernan scored 75 following his previous scores
against Sway of 106 retired and 98 not out ( surely a summer
transfer target ) and A.Collinson retired on 100 and a confident
Wimborne took an early tea having set Sway 250 to win in a timed
game.
However after Bricko
went early doors lbw Jack Baughan and The Pieman launched a
savage assault on the Wimborne bowling so brutal that when Jack
departed caught for 34 the score was 121 - 2 after just 13
overs. The Piemaster continued undaunted partnered now by Will
Baughan and at drinks the score had moved on to 170 - 2 off 18
overs with the 20 overs rule starting when play resumed, FJ must
have had two much orange juice as he was stumped first ball of
the resumption having hit 82 including 1 six and 16 fours. Will
went on to score a fifty ( 9 x 4 1 x 6 ) and when captain for
the day Casper Todd and Charlie Smith settled in Sway reached
245 -5 needing just 5 runs to win with 9 overs in hand. However
young leg spinner H.Prince bowled the 30th over, Todd hit a 2
then was caught, brother Jack nudged a single then Smith was
stumped and with the injured Steve Hannibal on his way to
A&E this left just Dapper and Crumpy to bat with two runs
needed. Dapper strode assuredly out to the middle leaving Crumpy
to find his pads, left the first ball alone then hit a chest
high full toss straight to square leg who briefly celebrated
the catch before the call of no ball spurred him into action and
with Dapper halfway down the pitch an appeal for run out
followed being turned down as the batsman had left his ground
under misapprehension ( Dapper is used to being given out but
twice in one ball ! ) anyway Dapps fortunately survived the last
ball of the over and Jack Todd pushed the winning run three
balls later, exciting stuff and a first win over Dave Marshall's
home town.
