Sway
won the toss and decided to bat on a fast looking
Milford wicket. Clark and
Stevenson got them off to a good start with a number of
early boundaries but the Milford opening bowlers Ferrar
and Lewis were quick but a bit wayward, however they
picked up the first 3 wickets with only 53 on the board
Sway were in a bit of trouble. Stevenson and Charton
steadied the ship and with some lusty blows took the
score to 90 before Stevenson was smartly stumped off the
bowling of Sam Brown. Charton brought up his 50 with a
large slice of luck when he was caught out on the
boundary but the fielder unfortunately stepped back over
the line and 6 runs scored. Brown 3-41 got his man
shortly after with Charton finishing on 52 and then Sam
Nailor 30 not out was well supported by Will Woodfine 14
and took the Sway total up to 198 just 2 runs short of
the 200 for maximum points. Jack Ferrar ended up
Milford’s best bowler with 4-36.
After
tea, Sway’s opening bowlers Rodway and Nailor took an
early wicket each with some excellent aggressive fast
bowling and some smart close fielding by Ross Clark to
run out Stu Brown for 9 had Milford struggling at 30 for
3. Burns 21 and Ferrar 38 then decided the best form of
defence was attack with a number of big boundaries took
the score to 68 before Woodfine picked up both batsmen
in quick succession with the excellent Sway fielders
taking catches out in the deep. Once these 2 batsmen had
gone Bramwell 3-8 and Woodfine 4-26 cleaned up the tail
and
Milford ended on
92 all out.
