REGIONAL DIVISION 4 SW

SWAY  III   255 - 7 SWAN GREEN  II    76. Sway Won by 179 runs

Sway 3rds returned to winning ways crushing 10 men Swan Green 2nds by 179 runs and picking up maximum points in the process.

Sway skipper Pete Hammett lost the toss and was pleasantly surprised when asked to bat first, this they did with yet another new opening pair the very youthful partnership of Andrew Straw and Laurie Symons. Straw was first out bowled by the impressive B.Jones ( 2 - 26 ) and shortly afterwards F.J.Charton was caught off of J.Cunningham junior and Sway were 35 - 2 from 10 overs. Symons was joined by his under 17 colleague Jacob Moore and these two played exceptionally well and reached halfway with the total on 98 - 2, after bringing up the 100 Symons was run out for 46 then S.Witney chipped in with 2 wickets removing Ian Stone caught for 14 then bowling Moore 1 run short of what would have been his first league 50. The experienced Ed Golding and Charlie Smith now set about pushing on the run rate with Smith hitting 7 fours in a quick fire 34 and despite losing Will Baughan cheaply Golding and Sam Harvey took the final score on to 255 - 7 with Golding back on form finishing undefeated on 58.

Swan Green needed runs from their top four batsmen especially openers J.Sweeney and B.Kimberley and when Sweeney crashed Jack Ford's first ball through the covers for 4 the intention was quite plain, however a mix up of the last ball of the over saw Sweeney seemingly short of his ground when the stumps were broken but with the square leg umpire not having a clear view Sweeney sportingly walked. Sam Harvey opened with Ford and these two were soon amongst the wickets, Ford taking 2 - 18 off 7 overs and Harvey completing his 10 taking 5 - 29 bowling superbly. Only Kimberley and Cunningham senior made it into double figures as Swan Green were shot out for just 76 with Stone picking up the final wicket and Moore completing a good day by holding 3 catches (securing a position on the Sway honours board).

Laurie Symons - run out for 46
