Sway 3rd edge past Lymo in
tense derby
RD4SW Sway
III 161, Lymington IV 147. Sway won by 13 runs
Electing to bat
Sway lost early wickets to Lymington's young opening bowlers
Nick Nineham and Nathan Smith however Will Woodfine looked in
good form and hit four sweetly struck boundaries before
surprisingly edging Josh Dunkley's third delivery to keeper Joe
Quigley after making 22. Andy Glasspool finally got off the mark
for the season and looked to be settling in when Lee
Moors fooled him with a straight one trapping him lbw for 14,
Andy Straw was joined by in form Will Baughan and a 47 run
partnership ensued before both perished in successive overs,
Baughan lbw to Smith for 26 then Straw was caught and bowled by
Mark Thacker for 28. From looking likely to make a good total
Sway now had to dig in however Dunkley (3-24) and Thacker (2-18)
helped by Sam Harvey being run out cheaply meant that Sway
collapsed to 161 all out after 37.1 overs.
Nineham and
Quigley opened for Lymington and set off at a rapid pace taking
20 off the first 3 overs but Steve Drayton had Nineham caught at
mid-off for 11 and Thacker came in at number 3. Straw injured an
ankle and skipper Pete Hammett brought on John Wills who came
out of retirement due to player shortages and the wily old
veteran was soon back in the swing starting with a maiden.
Quigley and Thacker although not quite working out Wills played
well and took the score onto 75 in the 17th over when Thacker
was caught and bowled by Wills for 19 and 5 runs later Quigley
was superbly caught at 2nd slip by Drayton for 28 leaving
Lymington relying mainly on the polished batting of Trevor
Phillips. Wills finished his allotted spell picking up 2 more
wickets to finish with the excellent figures of 10 6 9 4 and
went down to the boundary to work out his forthcoming golfing
dates whilst fellow veteran Phillips started to pick off
boundaries hitting 9 in total before Tony Owen trapped him lbw
for 42 in his first over. Sam Harvey joined in the wicket taking
getting 2 - 47 and Woodfine then bowled Dunkley for 6 leaving
Lee Moors to hit 2 fours and bring Lymington to within 14 runs
of victory when Drayton bowled him in the 36th over leaving Sway
narrow winners in a close contest.
