Baughan drives Sway III to fine victory
Parley 183-8
Sway
216-9. Sway won by 33runs
Sway III
travelled to King's Park and put in a fine performance to go top
of the league after 2 league games.
Sway won the toss
and elected to bat first at King's Park with the crowd noise at
the nearby Bournemouth v. Huddersfield play off match as
accompaniment [surely they were cheering for you Mr Hurrell?]
After a brief
discussion Tony Owen was promoted up the order to partner Dave
Hurrell but after hitting G.Wilson for a boundary he was bowled
next ball bringing in Jacob Moore and these two settled down to
the task of getting a solid start. With the score at 41 Moore
(12) was caught in the slips off of Laura Thomas (1-38 ) and at
68 Hurrell was adjudged lbw to S.Ayres (1 - 20 ) having made 32.
The in form Ian Stone was joined by Will Baughan and a cogent
partnership of 87 runs were added before Stone edged to slip
off of the returning Wilson having made 27 and shortly
afterwards Baughan's excellent knock of 64 including 10 fours
was also ended by the impressive Wilson who would finish with
4-51 off his ten overs. A mini collapse ensued before the adept
Matthew Brearley 18 n.o and Jack Ford 17 put on what turrned out
to be a crucual 35 runs for the 9th wicket with Matt Dowding
3-20 bowling Ford with the last ball leaving Sway on 216-9.
Skipper Pete
Hammett's policy of opening the bowling with Brearley and left
arm spinner Tony Owen continued with the idea of keeping the
pacy Ford for later in the innings. With Owen getting two early
wickets things were going well however opener D.Edmunds now
partnered by former Milford star M.Dowding were looking in good
form and when Edmunds cut another four the chasing Ford pulled
his hamstring leaving Sway down to 10 men and a bowler short.
Fortunately for Sway Andrew Straw and Stone both put in very
good bowling spells with Straw removing Edmunds (31) leg stump
and Stone in his first over having Dowding caught behind by Andy
Glasspool for a fine 36, two more wickets went down with Straw
getting Wilson caught and bowled and Daniel Osborne ( 1- 16 )
having O.Dowding caught by Baughan at square leg meaning Parley
were 99-6 and now behind the run rate.
The new batsmen
skipper Mark Barber and O.Morris settled in and playing sensibly
put on 70 runs together both falling late on Barber bowled by
Straw for 39 and Owen bowling Dowding for 21 leaving Ayres and
S.Edworthy to see out the last couple of overs as Parley closed
on 183 - 8 with Straw taking 3 -35 and Owen 3-45.
