Dramatic Win for Sway II

New Forest Indoor Cricket League

Sway II 111-5 - Hythe & Dibden III 113-6 - Sway won by losing fewer wicketd

(apologies/thanks to Hythe for nicking their match report - Hurrell obviously on a go-slow)

Hythe won the toss and elected to field first. Hythe opened the bowling with  just 7 runs came off the first. However, a 51 opening stand between Rick How and Dan Stevenson developed for the first wicket in 6 overs giving Sway a good platform before Stevenson was bowled for 15 by Hythe's best bowler on the night Tom Huxley. Two balls later How retired bringing in 15 year old Andrew Straw to join veteran Dave Marshall. 12 came off the 6th over then in the 7th - Marshall was run out by Sam Mead for 13.

In the 9th - Straw was run out by Josh Mead for 5 - Sway 86 for 3 and two runs later older brother Sam Mead run out Steve Drayton for 6. With Hythe on top How returned to join Steve Keen with just over two overs to go. How quickly moved onto 40 with a six off Kev McCarthy - but  McCarthy got his own back next ball with a clean bowled. 107-5. Kean saw out the final two balls with some well run 3's finishing on 10 not out. Sway 111 for 5

Hythe got off to a good start in reply with 19 coming off the first 2 overs. In the 3rd though North was needlessly run out for 9. Sam Mead and skipper Stovell pushed the score along. 37 off 4 and 60 off 6. At 65 Mead was run out for 24. Josh Mead joined Stovell and 7 more runs were added in the 7th over but in the 8th the impressive Straw bowled Josh Mead for 3 - Hythe 76 for 3. 13 runs came off the 9th thanks to Sway's generosity with wides. Huxley added to the excitement when he was run out for 5 at 96. Stovell was then to be joined by in form McCarthy.

With 9 needed off 2 overs the only runs Hythe could achieve was 2 wides off coach Marshall and then Stovell was run out for 22 leaving McCarthy looking for the 4 winning runs. Drayton surprisingly gave us a wide to bring the scores level but with 3 balls left and McCarthy looking like he couldn't hit a beach ball - was bowled by Drayton and the game was tied. At this point the uber-veteran scoring partnership of Hurrell and Chiverton were left scratching their remaining follicles - and it turned out that Sway had actually won having lost fewer wickets.

Draytons 1-19 with 9 dot balls was Sways best bowler whilst young Straw's 1-28 inc 7 dot balls proved he can perform amongst the seniors.
