200 wickets for
Willsy
John Wills has
now brought up 200 wickets for Sway with his 9th wicket in just
2 weeks in a 4-wicket haul against Mudeford III.
The wily and
experienced operator has now taken 201 wickets at an average of
just 16.42 and an economy rate of 3.79 and his appetite for
wickets is matched only by his appetite for his favourite
cheeseburgers!
Willsy made his
Sway debut for the 2nd XI in 2004 in a crushing defeat against
Bransgore. He bowled 3 overs for 12 runs - a comparatively good
return compared with Steve How (5-30), Dave Hurrell (3-29), A
Newman (2-22), Jack Walton (10-54), Ron Tranter (9-55) and Mark
Wright (2-19)!!!
Big John was also
a key member of Dave Marshall's promotion winning 1st XI of
2007, taking 25 wickets in 12 games at an average of just 9.68 -
significantly better than Grash. Willsy now looks set to be in a
promotion winning side again in 2010 for the second XI and looks
on course for a PB wickets tally.
No slouch with
the bat either, Willsy has also racked up 1,069 runs ensuring
membership of the exclusive club of players who have taken 200
wickets and scored 1,000 runs for Sway (Grasham, Osborne and
Walton)
Despite regularly
speaking of retirement, Willsy looks set to be around for a few
years to come...
