8 out of 8 for
Sway II
HCL RD4SW
Sway II 169-2, Hyde II 159ao. Sway
won by 8 wickets
Hyde won the toss and chose to bat at Jubilee Field and got off
to a brisk start with the help of the lightning fast outfield,
openers Ball and O'Donnell putting on 50 within 10 overs before
Terry Patch struck twice trapping O'Donnell lbw for 27 and then
having Alvis caught behind for a duck. John Wills then replaced
the excellent Patch and quickly had Ball lbw for 37 before
Wright and Golding picked up a wicket each with some tight
accurate bowling to leave Hyde struggling on 120 for 5. Wills
7th over changed the match taking 3 wickets in 4 balls and
ending up with an excellent 9-2-39-5. The last pair kept the
innings alive with some stout defence from Witt and some lusty
blows from Welsby who finished up on 22 before Rob Steadman was
brought back into the attack and clean bowled him.
Wright and Golding led the reply with some steady opening
batting seeing off the initial threat from Ball and Gorvin
before Wright was caught behind for 18 with the score on 30.
Chris Hammond resorted to his regular more aggressive approach
taking the attack to all the Hyde bowlers with some big hitting
all around the ground. He lost Golding for 17 with the score on
73 but Henry Thornton with 28 continued in the same vein and
Hammond finishing up with a superb 87 not out and they took Sway
to a comfortable eight wicket victory after only 27 overs. That
makes 8 wins out of 8 for Sway II who stay top of the league
