Sway into Stone Cup semi finals

STONE CUP QUARTER FINAL

SWAY 107-6 BURLEY  87-8, Sway won by 20 runs

With only two players available from the side that had just beaten Burley in the league, Sway were pleased to progress to the semi final following a good team effort.

Batting first the total of 107 seemed to be a few runs short of what was needed mostly due to an excellent spell of bowling from Mike Gaffney-Dodds who took 4-12 from his 4 overs. Nilantha Atapattu with a brisk 39 including 3 sixes top scored for Sway with Steve Thistleton and Will Baughan adding vital late runs.

Burley's two top batsmen Kieron Hudson and Wayne Tucker opened the batting and seemed to have settled in before David Steadman (1-23) caught and bowled Tucker for 12 in the 6th over. With the score at 55-1 with 7 overs left Burley were in charge but with Alex Moorman being run out and Chris Hammond (2-19) getting the vital wicket of Hudson, Dan Stevenson taking the first of his 3 catches Sway were back in the game. A parsimonious spell of bowling from Jack Ford yielding just 13 runs from his 4 overs increased the pressure on the Burley batsmen which was asseverated by Steve Thistleton who took 3-19 to leave Burley 20 runs short on 87-8.
