Sway II 234-7, Ringwood II 164ao. Sway won by 70 runs

Again Pete lost the toss and was put in to bat at Carvers Field and lost 2 quick wickets to some tight bowling from Philpot and some wayward intimidating bowling from Gould who collected a couple of warnings from umpire Bennet. Dan Stevenson and Rick How stabilised the ship and with a view to seeing off the 10 overs from the accurate Philpot then get after the other bowlers later on but by the 19th over both were out in quick succession. Enter Chris Hammond and Robert Steadman who proceeded to dispatch the bowling to all parts of the ground in a superb display of aggressive hitting, Robert Steadman was out shortly after passing a quality 50 for the first time this season, Pete Bennet next in was but was caught on the temple by a short ball from Gould and had to go to hospital for some stitches, Gould then had to be removed from the attack after one beamer to many but Chris Hammond continued with 6's and 4's and was finally out on the last ball of the innings thinking he need 3 for his century was caught on the boundary for a magnificent 99.

With 235 to chase Ringwood had a difficult job and this was not helped in the second over when John Wills worked his magic and had Bailey smartly caught by Steadman at the second attempt fielding in close. Some fine fast bowling by Jack Ford 0-46 who found the edge a number of times without any luck but Hersey pushed the scoring rate along scoring a fine 40 before Wills bowled him. Gregory took up the run chase but slowly ran out of partners, Charlie Smith produced a fine spell of bowling taking 3 for 27 wickets to reduce Ringwood to 92 for 7. Then Wilson come together with Gregory and put on 61 for the 8th wicket giving them an outside chance of winning the game until John Wills was brought back into the attack and had Gregory caught by Jack Ford for a fine 73, Wills ending with 3 for 33. Rob Steadman then finished off the tail taking 3 for 29 leaving Ringwood 60 runs short - a great team effort for the maximum 24 points. Mention should be given to young Laurie Symons who did an excellent job taking over the gloves from Pete Bennet (watch out Pete) and to to his Dad Martin who came for a quiet Saturday afternoon out but ended up as the substitute fielder. Bennet later returned to the pub from hospital with 12 stitches - in time for last orders!!
