5th June 2010 3rd XI make it 4 out of 4 Sway III 204-7, Colden Common II 89. Sway won by115 runs Sway’s thirds extended their unbeaten start to 2010 to four games on a hot afternoon at Woodside, but had any of the three early edges to slip been taken the result could have been different. In any case progress was slow against tight early bowling, especially R. Swain (10-4-15-1), but with seasoned opener Pete Hammett bedding himself in the seemingly inadequate score of 49-2 at 20 overs was merely the foundation for another maximum batting haul. Hammett was happy to act as the anchor as Will Baughan (27) and Matt Burton scored more freely. Burton completely his first fifty for the club and went on to total 67. Chris Baughan hit 12 off 5 deliveries before being bowled on the final delivery, leaving Hammett 56 not out. Sway’s opening bowlers were even more miserly than their opponents. James Howard (8-4-12-0) bowled a fine spell that deserved several wickets, but it was the pacey youngsters who made regular breakthroughs, Dave Steadman finishing with 2-17, senior debutant Will Woodfine 2-26 and Sam “Wasim” Nailor 2-31. The slightly-less-youthful Tony Owen’s left arm spin returned 2-5 before Chris Baughan wrapped up the innings in the 37th over courtesy of a sharp stumping by a Steve Keen. An excellent all-round performance, with the five colts especially making fine all-round contributions, and Sway’s triple promotion push continues unabated
