Superb cup win for U11s

Sway 70-7, Redlynch & Hale 69-2. Sway won by 1 run

Sway U11s recorded a shock victory by the narrowest of margins. Sway batted first and got off to a disastrous start losing 2 wickets without a run on the board and a further 3 wickets with many runs. However a fine unbeaten innings of 27 no out by Sway skipper Luke Lewis, partnered confusingly first by younger brother George Lewis (not out 10) and Joseph Lewis (8 not out) enabled Sway to reach 70-7.

In reply the wizard of spin Chris Straw claimed an early wicket and a later wicket fell to Jordan Drodge, cousin of Lymo U15 star Adam Drodge, on his Sway debut. However, Sway failed to take further wickets and J Benson retired 26 not out. Despite using a score book challenging 9 different bowlers, Sway kept a tight grip on the run rate with no bowler being expensive. Both George Lewis and Joseph Lewis went for just a single off their over, James Mantle and Luke  Lewis 4 off 2.

Going into the final over Redlynch needed  7 to win. A boundary off the penultimate ball led to an exciting finish. The batsmen hit a single off the last ball to point but the fielder in his over excitement pinged the ball back into the bowler and it very nearly went for four overthrows. Luckily due to fine backing up the ball was stopped and the fielder had the presence of mind to walk he ball in to close out the victory for Sway.
