Records tumble as club hits new high

No doubt in the years to come we will look back on Saturday 15th May 2010 as representing a new high point in the club's history. Not only did all four adult clubs win for the first time, but many records were smashed as the club racked up 951 runs for the loss of just 19 wickets - a amazing average of over 50 per wicket!!

1st XI

The first eleven scored 313-1 batting first against North Baddesley. Despite the loss of an early wicket, Barry Jones and Alex Hall batted out the rest of the innings recording a club record partnership of 291. In the process Hall racked up his maiden league century - a club record 168 not out, and Jones recorded the second highest ever score of 128 not out. North Baddesley's Amjad Parvaiz launched into the Sway bowling with some excellent shots but with the required rate creeping up, however, Parvaiz was forced to take one chance too many and holed out to Nilantha Atapattu on the boundary. North Baddesley had one further big hitter in the form of Aaron Williams. Williams continued to keep his side in the game on the way to a quite literally rasping 58, but when he too found Atapattu in the deep, the game was  effectively wonTerry Patch was the pick of the Sway bowlers picking up 4-35 as Sway won by 119 runs.

2nd XI

The seconds recorded a fine win against a revitalised Hordle II. Hordle batted first and notched up a seemingly decent total of 181 for the loss of just 3 wickets. Facing a tricky run chase, Sway did lose 4 relatively early wickets. However, an unbeaten partnership between Ross Clark (77*) and the gallic enigma FJ Charton, Sway knocked off the required runs with relative ease.

3rd XI

Put into bat Sway scored consistently through the batting order as an under strength Otterbourne. Opener Pete Hammett set the tone hitting a compact 65 getting support from Will and Chris Baughan and when he was run out youngsters Jacob Moore (27) and Andrew Straw (27 n.o) pushed things along, leaving Charlie Smith to score a rapid 27 n.o as Sway closed on 273-8.  Opening bowlers James Howard (3-16) and David Steadman (3-6) soon got amongst the wickets not giving the Otterbourne batsmen time to settle and backed up by excellent fielding had the game won early leaving Tony Owen 2-12 to end the match in the 15th over.

4th XI

The 4th XI traveled to Chapel Gate and produced a superb performance to record their maiden win against Bournemouth VI. Bournemouth batted first and posted a pretty decent score of 179-5. However, the experienced Andy Glasspool steered the team to a 4 wicket victory with an unbeaten 61.
