Clark ton gets 1st XI off to dream start

CBBEA 164-8, Sway 165-0. Sway won by 10 wickets

Adam Clark bludgeoned his maiden ton for Sway to give the first eleven a dream start in their new life in Division 1.

Luckily Sway won the toss and put CBBEA in to bat in damp and drizzly conditions. In just the 3rd over John Grasham struck, removing the middle stump. At the other end Jack Walton was bowling some unplayable stuff and deservedly got his first wicket with a glove through to keeper Adam Clark. CBBEA were soon reeling at 18 for 3 when Grasham sent another middle stump tumbling 5 yards down the pitch and followed up with a third wicket at the end of his spell. George Thornton grabbed two wickets and Steve Thistleton one as CBBEA stumbled to 92-7. CBBEA then rallied with some gutsy lower order batting. Although Grasham claimed a fourth wicket with a LBW (sparing the blushes of Dave Marshall who dropped a catch at gulley the previous ball), CBBEA in the end reached  a respectable score of 164-8.

With the poor weather conditions, it seemed like a potentially difficult run chase. However, no one appears to have told Sway opener Adam Clark. The normally circumspect Clark launched into the CBBEA bowling right from the off, hitting the ball to all parts of the ground. After breaking his skippers bat, he returned with an even bigger plank and continued where he left off eventually finishing 113 not out with his maiden ton with his 100 including 15 fours and 4 sixes. At the other end the normally dominant Alex Hall was reduced to a supporting role and finished 41 not out as Sway knocked off the runs in just 17.3 overs.
