Sway II but up brave fight
Swan Green 152-4 Sway II 134-3,
|
There are two ways to bat indoors - the first is to nudge the balls to the walls and run, the second is to his the ball so damn hard that nobody has a hope in hell of catching it. Swan Green's Dan Tasker certainly falls into the later category. With Swan Green winning the toss and electing to bat, Tasking immediately went on a full on shock and awe offensive - hammering the unfortunate Ross Clark for 22 off the first over and retiring after just 8 balls. As is often the case in indoor cricket it could all have been so different had Dave Marshall gotten more than a couple of fingertips to a piledriver. Sway were without their opening strikeforce of Steadman (dislocated shoulder) and Bramwell (groin) so Sam Harvey made his indoor debut naturally taking a while to settle in before producing some decent stuff. However, generally speaking there were too many wides again with a whopping 48 runs coming off extra with all bowlers sharing the blame. Sway's bowling did improve as the innings wore on - Sam Harvey took a catch of FJ Charton's bowling and there were 3 decent run outs, however, the target of 153 to win was always likely to be 20 or so too many. In fact Sway probably batted the best they have all season. Although Ross Clark was dismissed for 8 fairly early on, skipper Dave Marshall (31*) and Rick How (27*) worked the walls and combined with some loose bowling (again 48 runs in extras as both sides seemed to struggle with the extra swing produced by the shiny new ball) kept Sway just about on the rate before they both retired. Sam Harvey was run out for 5 and FJ Charton was stumped for 3 and Swan Green tightened their grip. Steve Hannibal (7*) and the returning Marshall needed 35 odd off the last 2 overs, however, the nagging accuracy of Tasker (3-0-21-12) and young Tom Arnold (3-0-25-0) gave Sway precious few opportunities to score big runs. Overall however not a bad performance especially with the bat and an enjoyable and hard fought game. |
