Sway Indoor 1st team self destruct
Sway 74ao, Hythe & Dibden II 74-3
|
Despite being boosted by the return of Jack Walton from his antipodean meanderings, Sway I clearly failed to shrug off the effects of the night before and put up a dismal performance against a bright Hythe side driven on by the ever youthful Sean Tongs. Sway I batted first and committed the two cardinal sins of indoor batting - firstly they contributed to their own downfall by conspiring to run themselves out 4 times; and secondly they failed to bat out their 12 over allotment. In fact they managed only 7.1 overs in an innings that lasted just 16 minutes!!! Sway started reasonably brightly reaching 38 without lost helped by some loose Hythe bowling, however, dangerman Alex Hall was deceived by one of the 6 balls he was seeing chipping a simple catch to mid-off. Shortly after Steve How swung and missed at a ball outside off stump and was smartly stumped by Tongs. It was then the problems really started - skipper Adam Clark was called for a dodgy quick single by Joe Rodway and was run out. Then the very next ball Rodway himself was dismissed in another running mix-up. Things did not improve from there when George Thornton was also run out. With just Jack Walton out there, the one thing Sway needed to do was to bat out the 12 overs and try and get a defendable score off 100+ on the board, however, to cap an abject display, Walton himself was run out just a few balls later. If Sway were to have any hope at all of victory, they would have to take quick wickets. Hythe, had no intention of letting this happen and despite some hostile pace bowling from George Thornton. The experienced Tongs and Ewan Bell took their time to knock up 36 before Tongs hit a caught and bowled to Thornton. Jack Walton on his return bowled well picking up a couple of wickets, but in truth Hythe never looked like blowing it and knocked up the required runs in just 8 overs. |
