Valiant Sway II sunk by Milford
|
Milford 126-3, Sway 105-6 An under strength Sway II put in a much improved performance however were unable to overcome 2nd placed Milford. Sway won the toss and put Milford into bat. Sway started fairly indifferently however slowly found their feet. Steve Hannibal struck early in a fine spell of 3-0-26-1 when the frustrated Milford opener drove the ball hard but straight to Dave Marshall. Dangerman Chris Hammond was finding the combination of Hannibal and the pies of FJ Charton tricky to put away and in the end mistimed a drive which was caught up against the off-side wall, again by Dave Marshall. Marshall then brought himself on to bowl and the Milford scoring rate was squeezed further. A couple of chances were missed however and eventually Milford ran up a relatively modest 126-3. In reply Sway started in composed manner with Charton and Rick How scoring steadily but surely. The first wicket did not fall until the score was on 51 when How was run out. A further wicket fell straight away when Steve Hannibal fell for a golden. Disaster then struck when skipper Dave Marshall middled a short ball but was caught at the second attempt high up against the back wall for just 1. Matt Bramwell was run out for 7 and James Howard on his debut scored 6 before his stumps were disturbed. This left Charton on his own to score a decent 38, however with too many drives hitting the ceiling (just 1 point) Sway were never able to get back on the required rate. |
