Sway III Outgunned

New Milton II 172-2, Sway III 114ao

Division 3 title favourites New Milton 2 cruised to a comfortable 63 run victory over Sway 3rds due mainly to a powerful batting performance.  Opener Ryan Beck took 17 runs plus a wide off the first over of the game to set the tone and when he soon retired Lee Miller carried on in similar vein. Steve Keen switched the bowling around and in the 7th over Sway picked up their first wicket as Steve Vibert (15) hit his wicket obviously bamboozled by Dave Hurrell's Machiavellian flight. Miller also retired as did the subsequent pair of Steve Taylor and Kristian Locke, before Sway claimed a 2nd wicket when Roy Thomas was run out for 6 leaving Beck 41 n.o and Miller 28 n.o to push the final total up to a bowling-average destroying 177 - 2.

Sway's reply got off to a disastrous start as Ian Stone was run out off the 3rd delivery with out facing a ball and Steve Keen was well caught by Miller for a golden duck and the score was 3-2 at the end of Taylor's over. Dan Stevenson and Tony Owen repaired matters with a 40 run partnership ended when Owen was lbw to Miller for 19. Steve Drayton was bowled by Locke for 3 and Hurrell joined Stevenson to add 34 runs together before Hurrell was run out for 11, Stevenson carried on only to be caught by Beck off Locke for a fine 48 with just 1 ball remaining and the score at 114.
