Valiant effort by 5-man Sway
|
Ringwood 166ao, Sway I 153-4 For the 2nd game in succession Sway I were missing a host of star names; and this time were unable to put out even a full 6-man team. Ringwood batted first and got off to a flying start - rampaging to 58 runs off the first 3 overs. The brakes were applied somewhat in the middle of the innings however Ringwood did not lose their first wicket until the 8th over when Alex Hall hit the stumps with the score on 106. One further Ringwood batsman was run out but it was not until the last two overs that Sway really got amongst the wickets - preventing Ringwood knocking up an unbeatable total. A wicket a-piece for Steve How and David Steadman along with another run out ensured at least that Sway would pick up maximum bowling points. Sway's reply got off to a poor start when Alex Hall was run out for just 5 - sent back by the skipper Steve How. When Pete Bennett was stumped with the score on 39 Sway seemed well out of the game however a How family partnership got the score ticking over nicely - Steve clubbing the big shorts, Freddie working the walls. When How senior holed out for 35 he was replaced by youg Steadman who also batted well for a fine 22. Sway needed an almost impossible 56 to win off the final 3 overs, however Steve How gave it his very best shot smashing a series of sixes on his way to a club record 76 not out. However, it was too big an ask and Sway fell 13 runs short.
