Under strength 1sts go down to the 'Gore
|
Sway I 104ao, Bransgore 105-1 An under strength Sway 1st team suffered a heavy opening day defeat at the hands of newly promoted Bransgore. Sway were missing skipper Adam Clark, paceman Jon Grasham and indoor specialist Terry Patch. Brought in to make their indoor debuts were Pete Bennet, Jack Ford and young David Steadman. Sway batted first, and although they lost Steve How bowled for 11 fairly early on, they seemed to be making good progress. Alex Hall was soon retired on 26 whilst at the other end Jack Walton, for whom indoor cricket must be similar to the queen going to Butlins, was serenely working the side walls and moving the score on nicely. It was not to last however - once Walton was also retired, Pete Bennett (7) and David Steadman (8) batted together and despite some excellent running between them, they were both dismissed relatively cheaply. Jack "one shot" Ford rather predictably came and went for a duck meaning Walton and Hall were back together with the score on 94 after 7 overs. At this point a potentially winning score of 140+ seemed on the cards. However, Hall was bowled for 26 attempting a rather dubious sweep shot leaving Walton (36) alone. Sway then committed a cardinal indoor cricket sin of now batting out all their overs when a run out cock up meant that Sway were all out for a very modest 104 with 3 whole overs remaining. In reply Bransgore never really looked troubled and did not lose their first wicket until the score was on 53. This combined with some uncharacteristically loose bowling (34 extras) meant that Bransgore were able to cruise to a comfortable victory with 2 overs to spare. |
