Double Celebration as Terry hits purple patch!

HCL RD2SW - Sway I 143ao, Ringwood 57ao. Sway won by 87 runs

Unfortunately for the headline writers, Terry Patch produced his match-winning bowling performance on a drying pitch, rather than the damp wicket that Sway faced when batting!

Ringwood won a valuable toss and elected to bowl on what started off as damp and unpredictable wicket. The Sway batsmen struggled in the conditions and found themselves in trouble at 37-3 with a low scoring rate. However, a valuable partnership between Jack Walton and Barry Jones saw the home side move on to 72 before Walton was bowled by the impressive Martin Day. Day then proceeded to rip through the lower middle order taking 5-31 and it looked like Sway might be bowled out for less than a 100, however, a gutsy half century from Jones and enabled Sway to make it to a potentially defendable 143 all out.

The warm sun had dried out the wicket considerably by after tea and it looked like Sway might struggle without their strike bowler and skipper Jon Grasham. However, thanks to some fine bowling from George Thornton (2 for 11) including a cracking yorker to remove the Ringwood opener, and the ever reliable Jack Walton (3 for 23), Ringwood were soon reeling at 21-4.  A key partnership between Day and skipper M Bingham moved the score on to 51, however, at an important point of the game, Bingham was adjudged to have gloved a ball down the leg side to the keeper. This clearly frustrated Ringwood and led to an extraordinary sequence of events - Terry Patch came on to bowl and dropped Day with his first ball but then proceeded to take 4 wickets in the over and took the final wicket with the fourth ball of his second over to finish with 5 wickets for 4 runs off just 10 balls as Ringwood imploded and were skittled out for 57.

It was a double cause for celebration - congratulations to Terry and Felicity on their engagement. Ironically the future Mrs Patch missed her fiancée's exploits whilst chatting with Mrs Marshall on the boundary and enquired at the end of the game..."Did you get to bowl Terry...?"

Terry Patch - 1.4 overs, 5 wickets for 4 runs
