Sway power to 20/20 cup victory

Sway  159-3, Swan Green 96-9

Sway maintained their 100% record in the competition with a comprehensive victory over Swan Green. Sway batted first on a dampish wicket, but straight away were in the driving seat with a fine unbeaten partnership between the in-form Alex Hall and Ross Clark, in probably his most assured performance for Sway with the bat to date. Both players retired on reaching 35, as did Joe Rodway at number three with the first genuine wicket not falling until the score was on 130 when Steve "technicolour yawn" How was caught. After a short rain break Sway resumed on a wet pitch and there was a small flurry of excitement as first Adam Clark was bowled, then next ball it was very much a golden shower for Robert Steadman as he was bowled first ball. Any excitement was soon snuffed out by the incoming batsman Steve Keen who had no intention of playing anything other than a regulation forward defensive to the hat-trick ball. Keen and Dave Marshall saw the score through to a very respectable 159 off the allotted 20 overs.

In reply the pace and accuracy of Sway opening attack of Steve Thistleton and Steadman were no match for Swan Green and they were soon deep in trouble at 9-3 with Steadman taking 2 wickets and Thistleton 1, all bowled. Things did not really improve for Swan Green when Walton, replacing Steadman, bowled himself another wicket to leave Swan Green at 27-4 of 7 overs, leaving the visitors requiring 10 an over. Sway then introduced N Fernando for his debut, and he claimed a wicket in his second over on the was to 1-26 off 4. With the game drifting away, Sway could relax and introduce some variation into the bowling. skipper Adam Clark brought himself on for a couple of overs, claiming a wicket in his second; whilst at the other end Dave Marshall turned to spin, taking two wickets in the final over of the day to leave Swan Green well-beaten on 96-9.
