REGIONAL DIVISION 4 SW MUDEFORD IV 127, SWAY II 128-3. Sway won by 7 wickets Put into bat Mudeford found it hard going with the ball swinging in the air and also plenty of movement off the seam. Matt Bramwell (3-23) got Sway off to the perfect start by removing the dangerous R.Smith bowled for 0 in the first over. A couple of wickets followed before opener C.Mills and A.Leftwich added 52 runs for the 4th wicket, Leftwich being lbw to Steve Drayton for 25. Mills was to carry on right to the finish remaining unbeaten on 37 as the wickets tumbled at the other end the total reaching 127, Drayton 3-23, Ross Clark 2-21 and Robert Steadman 1-8 being the other wicket takers. Sway also found early problems against the swing bowling of J.Bantock and were 14-2 with both openers out. However the inform pairing of Tony Owen and Rick How gradually got on top of the bowling and put on 110 runs together before the returning Bantock (3-31) removed Owen for a exquisitely made 65 with just 4 runs left for victory. Pete Hammett hit the winning boundary off his second ball leaving How unbeaten on 29 and Sway with a maximum haul of 24 points. [and to leave Hammett topping the batting averages! - Ed.]
