How stars as 2nds record superb Hyde II win

Hyde II 176-8, Sway 180-7. Sway won by 3 wickets

REGIONAL DIVISION 4 SW

For the third time this season Sway 2nds match was decided in the final over of the game and for a change it went in Sway's favour. Hyde batted first and after opener B.Daniels was smartly caught by Matthew Brearley for 38 off John Wills (3-33) they were indebted to the middle order with captain S.Turner making 50 assisted by S.Noakes (27) and a rapid 35 from M.Garvin. Sway fought back well and the final 8 overs only yielded 16 runs as Hyde fell short of the 200 plus runs they probably thought they would muster, Brearley 2-29, Nick Shaw 2-30 and Tony Owen 1-58 picking up the other wickets and Greg Harris with 2 catches proved his value in the field once again.

Sway's response faltered early when they were reduced to 16-2 however Owen (25) and stand in skipper Rick How added 53 for the 3rd wicket before Owen was caught behind off Garvin (2-36). Steve Hannibal with a vivacious 18 helped push the run rate along then J.Creasey 1-38 bowled Brearley before How was joined by Pete Hammett (25) in a vital 61 run partnership before Hammett was lbw with the score at 169 in the 39th over. How and Charles Sugden reached the final over with just 2 runs needed and after 2 dot balls How was lbw for a opulent 78 runs leaving the senescent Wills to face a wide to level matters then a dot ball and with 2 deliverys left he drove a straight drive down the ground for the winning runs, D.Alvis 2-22 and Daniels 2-33 taking the remaining wickets.
